Student-athletes must meet all University, NCAA and Big East Conference continuing eligibility regulations in order to participate in Division I athletics. The following are some very basic rules that all student-athletes must follow.
For student-athletes entering college for the first time prior to Fall 2003:
- Be enrolled in at least 12 credits each semester. Being in fewer than 12 credits for any period of time will automatically make you ineligible for practice and competition.
- Maintain a GPA of no less than 2.0. (Note: You must comply with the GPA standards of your academic department. You must have the required GPA in the department of your major as well as the University. Both GPAs are evaluated upon graduation.) Having a GPA below these minimums for two consecutive semesters makes a student-athlete ineligible for competition.
- Have completed all paperwork with all required signatures for a declared major by the start of your 5th full-time semester.
- Successfully complete at least 6 credits a semester.
- Successfully complete 24 credits per year, a minimum of 18 credits must be passed during the fall and spring semesters.
- At the start of your third year, you must have completed at least 25% of the required courses in your major program.
- At the start of your fourth year, you must have completed at least 50% of the required courses in your major program.
- At the beginning of your fifth year, you must have completed at least 75% of the required courses in your major program.
