Advising Contact Info

Seton Hall University requires that all students meet with an academic adviser prior to any pre-registration period. The College of Nursing assigns faculty advisers for all undergraduate nursing students from sophomore year through graduation. Graduate students are assigned advisors from their individual graduate program. While all curriculum information is available to students in printed and electronic format, advisers serve in a guidance capacity. Advisers work with students to choose classes and plan their curriculum. Students are required to meet with their faculty advisor each semester and to pre-register for the following semester during the official pre-registration period. Clinical placements can only assured with this advance planning. Once a student meets with his or her faculty adviser, that student is given a personal identification number (PIN) that provides access to the student’s degree audit and registration privileges for the next semester. Undergraduate students may find out to which advisor they have been assigned by contacting Ms. Lydia Castro in Room 239 in the College of Nursing, or at 973-761-9307, or Castroly@shu.edu. Graduate students are generally assigned to their individual program director for advisement.
Transfer Students and Second Degree Students
If a student transfers to Seton Hall University as a nursing major, she/he is initially advised by the Dean for Undergraduate Nursing, Dr. Linda Ulak. You may contact Dr. Ulak in Room 205 of the College of Nursing, or at 973-761-9276, or at Ulaklind@shu.edu. Second degree students also are advised by Dr. Ulak.
Accelerated BSN Program
Students in the Accelerated BSN program at the South Orange campus are advised by Dr. Phyllis Russo in the College of Nursing Room 202B, or at 973-761-9275, or at Russophy@shu.edu. Students in the Accelerated BSN program at the Georgian Court campus are advised by Dr. Joyce Wright at the Georgian Court campus, or at 732-987-2621, or at Wrightjo@shu.edu.
RN students
All undergraduate RN students in the RN-to-BSN completion program are advised by Dr. Gail Iglesias in the College of Nursing Room 202A, or at 973-761-9291, or at Iglesiga@shu.edu.
Shared Responsibility
The advisement relationship is one that the student and the adviser
share. The faculty adviser is responsible for imparting accurate information
on degree requirements, but the student bears an equal level of responsibility
for acquiring this knowledge. Familiarize yourself with the college
catalog, student handbook, nursing curriculum, and other important sources
that explain the academic policies and procedures that will assist you
in successfully reaching your goals. It is the student’s responsibility
to make an appointment to see the faculty advisor each semester for
advisement prior to pre-registration.
