Charge:
- Seton
Hall University has attracted and retained outstanding faculty.
- Detail
the accomplishments and needs of the faculty in enhancing student
performance and academic excellence.
- To
provide the breadth of experience needed to explore this wide-ranging
topic, the study group is composed of faculty members who have
experience at all levels of the tenure and promotion process,
faculty governance, administration and scholarship.
- The
study group will respond to the following hypotheses relating
to Faculty excellence at Seton Hall:
- The
qualifications of the faculty and other professionals has improved
over the past 10 years there are sufficient qualified faculty
to fulfill their role in supporting the University's mission.
- The
performance and qualifications of faculty teaching assistants,
and other professionals positively affects student learning and
performance.
- Educational
curricula are designed, maintained and updated by faculty and
other professionals who are academically prepared and qualified.
- There
is recognition of appropriate linkages among scholarship, teaching,
student learning, research and service.
- Effective
measures are used to gauge faculty performance and there is strong
faculty development and performance enhancement.
- Student
evaluations of teaching and classroom assessment techniques are
effectively used to measure faculty and student performance.
- The
published and implemented standards and procedures for all faculty
and other professionals, for actions such as appointment, promotion,
tenure, grievance, discipline and dismissal are based on principles
of fairness with due regard for rights of all persons.
- Criteria
for appointment, supervision and review of teaching effectiveness
of part time, adjunct and term faculty are consistent with those
applied to full time faculty.
- There
is adherence between the principles of academic freedom and institutional
mission and goals.
